I have always seen amazing and cute nurseries that parents will prepare for their child. And while I would’ve loved to do that for my first two children, I also didn’t see it feasible spending the money or time doing it. However, I would add my own touch with the decorations and furniture that I did use and overtime, it would become their own little room, personalized to them and different from their past sibling. This time around, we had some access to different materials through my husband’s work that allowed us to do a bigger renovation for much cheaper! So that was exciting! Come along for my baby boy nursery renovation!

Before the renovation, the room had three light grey walls, and then one accent wall. With my first, it was a deep green sort of colour, then with my second, I repainted it to a softer grey/green colour. We also had green and white houndstooth curtains that matched the accent wall. I had various pieces of furniture in there: crib, dresser (which doubled as a changing table), and a rocking chair (which would move depending on whether I needed it for nursing at the time). I had a few things on the walls. This would change a lot, because I never felt like I got it “right”. I would change my mind a lot. Some of the things I had in the past were a wicker basket wall, gallery wall, big tapestry with a prayer on it, and a macramé hanging. I loved all of these things at the time, but it did feel like something was missing. And so, this renovation was even more exciting, because it was long anticipated!

To start off, I painted the top half of the walls, the closet, and the ceiling. It was this cooler grey colour before but I really wanted to warm it up. I used Benjamin Moore’s Balboa Mist for that.

Then, my husband used 8 inch wide by 3 feet high tongue and groove pine planks and nailed them along each wall (minus the closet). I then sealed the wood with this Minnewax Clear Coat.

We put together the crib, and moved the furniture around to its place. I then added some thrifted pieces of artwork to the walls. My friend gave me this cute little lamp that I placed on the dresser as well—perfect for when we’re winding down for bed, or when we don’t want the “big” light on.

I’ll be adding the rocking chair and my nursing cart eventually as well, although they’ll be in my room for the first few weeks! Throughout my pregnancy, I gradually added things to and organized the dresser and closet as well.

I love it! And now it’s ready for our new little one! He won’t be sleeping in there at first, but preparing and having it ready beforehand is something I love spending time doing and I think I enjoyed it the most this time around. I also want to remind you that your baby DOES NOT NEED a fancy nursery to be healthy and happy. That’s like the last thing they need for that. But it’s also okay to spend time preparing and doing something you enjoy in anticipation for your new addition! This is a new and exciting time and I hope that doing something like this (or not doing it) can bring you joy!
